Flying internationally in business class comes with perks, and lounge access is a big one. At Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Star Alliance passengers have a couple of options: the SAS Lounge and the United Polaris Lounge. Recently, I had the chance to experience both, and here’s my take on why trekking to the Polaris Lounge is well worth the effort, even if it means changing terminals and going through security again.

SAS Lounge: A Decent Starting Point

Located in Terminal B, the SAS Lounge is a standard business class lounge. It offers:

  • Basic amenities: Comfortable seating, Wi-Fi, and a selection of drinks and snacks.
  • Limited food options: A small buffet with some hot and cold dishes.
  • Can get crowded: Especially during peak hours.

While the SAS Lounge is perfectly adequate for a short wait, it doesn’t offer the elevated experience that the Polaris Lounge provides.

Polaris Lounge: A Cut Above

The Polaris Lounge, located in Terminal C, is in a different league. It’s designed specifically for long-haul international business class passengers and offers a much more comprehensive experience:

  • Spacious and stylish: The lounge is beautifully designed with ample seating areas, including quiet spaces for working or relaxing.
  • Restaurant-quality dining: A full-service restaurant with a menu featuring delicious dishes and a wide selection of drinks, including cocktails and premium wines.
  • Enhanced amenities: Showers, daybeds, and even a quiet room for sleeping.

The Verdict

While accessing the Polaris Lounge from a different terminal at EWR requires a bit more effort, the difference in experience is significant. The Polaris Lounge offers a much more comfortable and luxurious environment, with better food, drinks, and amenities.

Is it worth the extra effort? In my opinion, absolutely! If you have enough time between flights, the Polaris Lounge is a much better way to relax and prepare for your journey.

Tips for accessing the Polaris Lounge from another terminal:

  • Allow plenty of time: Account for travel time between terminals and security lines.
  • Use the AirTrain or shuttle: EWR has an AirTrain that connects all terminals, and there may also be shuttle buses available.
  • Check security wait times: Use the TSA app or website to check security wait times and plan accordingly.

Ultimately, the decision of whether to visit the Polaris Lounge depends on your priorities and how much time you have. But if you’re looking for a truly exceptional lounge experience, the Polaris Lounge at EWR is definitely worth the extra effort.
