Editor’s Note: As my readers know by now, when not traveling the world, I love to write about my home in the Berkshires, a travel destination itself.  Tanglewood being the heart of the amazingly vibrant Performing Arts and culture scene, I thought I’d post this updated blog today filled with some important programming information, some of which was just released in the past day or two. I hope to meet you on the lawn this summer. – Ken

Dreaming of a summer filled with world-class music, stunning Berkshire scenery, and unforgettable moments? Look no further than Tanglewood 2025! The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is back with an incredible lineup, and just-added programs ensure this season will be its most vibrant yet.

What’s New and Not-to-Be-Missed for 2025?

Tanglewood is buzzing with exciting new additions that cater to every taste!

  • Family Fun on the Lawn: Get ready for a cinematic and symphonic treat! The Boston Pops will perform “The Goonies in Concert” (August 29th), bringing the beloved film to life with a live orchestral score. And for younger audiences, the annual Family Concert (July 20th), titled “Family Matters,” promises a delightful morning matinee.
  • Indulge Your Senses: A brand-new event, “Tasting Notes: The Tanglewood Wine & Food Festival” (August 16th), invites you to savor exquisite wine tastings and small plates from top Berkshire-area restaurants. This is the perfect addition for foodies and wine connoisseurs looking to elevate their Tanglewood experience.
  • Community Connection: Berkshire County residents, mark your calendars for Berkshire Day (July 13th), a free matinee concert featuring conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and violinist Pekka Kuusisto. It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience the magic of Tanglewood.
  • Nature & Music Combined: For those who love the outdoors, the new TLI–Audubon Tours (Wednesdays, July 2nd through August 20th) offer guided walks exploring Tanglewood’s natural beauty and tree species, set against the backdrop of live Wednesday morning rehearsals.
  • Pop & Rock Legends: The Popular Artist Series continues to grow with electrifying acts! The Barenaked Ladies bring their “Last Summer on Earth 2025” tour with special guests Sugar Ray and Fastball (July 8th). You can also catch a very special evening with Emmylou Harris & Graham Nash (July 29th). And as previously announced, superstar names like John Legend (September 5th), Jon Batiste (June 28th), Lynyrd Skynyrd (August 30th), and Nas with the Boston Pops (June 27th) are sure to draw crowds.
  • Classical Masterpieces & World Premieres: The classical program is rich with highlights, including the world premiere of John Williams’ Piano Concerto, composed for and performed by Emanuel Ax (July 26th). You’ll also find a celebration of Ravel’s 150th birthday with performances of his complete solo piano works by Seong-Jin Cho (July 16th), and the BSO’s concert-opera presentation of Puccini’s “Tosca” (July 19th). Don’t miss three concerts featuring the incomparable Yo-Yo Ma in August!

Beyond the Music: Exploring the Berkshires

Your Tanglewood adventure extends far beyond the Shed and Ozawa Hall. The picturesque Berkshires offer a wealth of activities to complement your musical getaway:

  • Art & History: Immerse yourself in culture at nearby attractions like the Norman Rockwell Museum, The Mount (Edith Wharton’s Home), Hancock Shaker Village, and the Clark Art Institute.
  • Outdoor Adventures: Enjoy hiking trails at Monument Mountain or Kennedy Park, explore the Berkshire Botanical Garden, or take a scenic drive through the rolling hills.
  • Culinary Delights: For the true Tanglewood experience, even if you have reserved seats, pack a gourmet picnic to enjoy on the Tanglewood lawn. I love grabbing prepared panini’s at Spirited or building a charcuterie board with goodies from Guido’s, both in Lenox.
